You must have heard about TotRockinBeats already, in fact, you’ve probably attended one of the events by now. It has been running for almost two years now and has become a huge hit with local families looking for a day out with a difference.
I have been taking photos at TotRockinBeats for over a year now. Dan approached me at Christmas 2016 to shoot the New Years Eve Party at the Assembly Hall. I wasn’t sure at first. We had plans for NYE, I didn’t know what the event was really about, would it be worth being there with my camera, would the crowd even appreciate being snapped like that?
But I was also intrigued. I love taking photos of children. I love the unexpected, natural shots. I love to be the spectator and capture that moment’s atmosphere for others to see and enjoy later. This may sound strange, it’s not meant to, but as a photographer in today’s world, you can’t simply rock up at the park and snap away. As much as I’d love to sometimes, as a mum myself, it’s just not appropriate and really not appreciated! So, to have 2 or 3 hours to take pictures of families having fun, dancing and being silly, knowing they will treasure those snaps later, well that’s just the best gig for me! I’m so glad I said yes back at Christmas 2016! My favourite snaps are at the bottom of this post.
TotRockinBeats is unlike any family event I have ever attended. The main attraction is obviously the absolute tunes, cleverly tailored to our generation of parents, tunes we remember from our clubbing days, absolute belters we can’t help but jig along to. With the bar mixed in, it feels like you’re proper out out, but back home in time for the kids to be in bed by 8. Very neat!!
There is so much more to it. There is always loads of other stuff going on and I’ve seen: Face painting, Crafting, Lego Club, Soft play, a Circus, giant inflatables, Busy Bees, Street Dance-offs, kids having a go at being the DJ, Gelato, Guiseppe’s Food, Marvellous Pie & Mash and many many more.

And one for the dads
Keep an eye out for the new club ‘Dad La Soul’, a club launching in Worthing especially for dads and their kids. It’s going to be held at Guildcare day centre for old folks, so it means there can be lots of old fellas coming along to hang out with the kids too, which is just fantastic. Here’s a video of what to expect:
'Dad La Soul' -TotRockinBeats DadsPlayDates. This is a new monthly club for dads, granddads, step-dads, male carers and their kids get to hang out, play, and learn new skills together. Each month will have a different theme, including DJ'ing, Music production, Film-making, Den-building, Pie-Making, Zombie-mask creation, etc. All of which will be lead by an expert in that particular field, that happens to be a dad. This will be backed up with lots of Lego, soft play, food, and toys from the TotRockinBeats supply cupboard. For more information contact firstname.lastname@example.org
