Mums in Business – Katie Robertson

Recently we were invited to try out the new Hotpod Yoga that arrived in Worthing over the summer. Lovely Simone went along to try a session and wrote a review about it. Today we meet Katie who runs it as one of our Mums in Business….

Tell us about you and your family

It is me, my husband Ross, little boy Rex (16 months) and a little baby girl due in November.

Are you originally from Sussex?

No. We have recently relocated from London to Shoreham by Sea to follow our dreams of beach living and setting up our own yoga studio. We both worked in advertising for years, and increasingly found it a very unrewarding and disheartening industry to be in. So we finally took the plunge to quit our jobs and try and make our dream a reality! The scariest thing we have done; especially with a young baby to provide for and another on the way. But we wanted to create a better life for our children where we as a family are at the centre of that. In London, Ross would see Rex for 10 mins per day, and that is not what we want at all. We wanted a family business that would enable us to spend time together and also be able to help society…..my humble opinion is that the more people who practise yoga, the better place the world will be!

What’s your favourite thing about living on the South Coast?

The Beach!!! We LOVE to be beside the sea. The air is so clear, the sea is so healing and makes us feel like anything is possible. Also, the people are all so FRIENDLY.

Hobbies? What do you do in your spare time?

I practise yoga a lot at home. I’m also a PT, a wellness coach (I’ve studied naturopathic nutrition) and have my own organic, vegan skincare brand called Face Föda, so I spend a lot of time researching new ingredients and blends. I am hugely passionate about natural health and holistic health so my hobbies really revolve around this – reading about it, talking to friends and our customers about it and living this way of life for us and our son. I started my blog just over 2 years ago and have built up a lot of content around nutrition, natural remedies, skin care, wellbeing, yoga, fitness etc! We also love to walk on the beach and just be outside among nature as much as possible. Oh…and eat lots of yummy food!

Tell us about your business, why you started and what drives you on?

We are Hotpod Yoga Worthing – a franchise hot yoga studio! We started it because it has been our dream for many years now. I have been teaching yoga part-time for the last 4 years alongside my day job, as well as PT-ing, teaching spinning, seeing private clients to coach them in wellbeing and creating my natural skincare brand and immersing myself in the wellness field because it is my huge passion. We are driven by the fact that this is our chance to make a go of our dream of living by the sea with our 2 small children and be together so much more than we ever were in London. We fell out of love with the city a long time ago and now is our chance – we think that we would rather try and fail, rather than not try and never know…..
