The CleverGreen Festival team are on a mission to bring an eco-friendly, ethically sound, festival to Brighton.
We aim to be as close to zero waste as we can get and we want you to be part of the fun!
We’re passionate about educating and inspiring people to make that leap, out of all of the confusion and into living a more sustainable lifestyle but we don’t want to do that by lecturing you and telling you what you’re doing wrong! We want to bring you the biggest festival of it’s kind to our local community so you can find out for yourself how to live a CleverGreen life.

We are committed to putting as much revenue as we can raised from the event, back into the local community, working with local businesses and stallholders, to support the Brighton economy.
WHY DO FESTIVALS NEED TO CHANGE?
*”Over three million people attend UK festivals each year and between them generate a staggering 23,500 tonnes of waste, equating to 2.8kg of waste per person, per day. Research suggests that of that amount only 32% is recycled with the other 68 per cent heading for landfill sites.
Add to that the UK’s commitment to be plastic free by 2042 and there is mounting pressure for festivals to find sustainable solutions to waste and recycling*
HOW WILL WE COMMIT TO OUR VALUES?
As well as following CleverGreen Group’s own code of practice (which can be found on our website) we will also be adhering to the guidelines stated by A Greener Festival, who advise the following:
– Allowing use of only biodegradable disposables or re-usable cups and plates on stalls.
– Providing separate bins for recycling.
– Utilising volunteers and potential sponsorship for the clean-up and sorting efforts.
– Separating waste for recycling
– Involving the crowd by supplying recycling bin bags and either a returnable rubbish tax or reward incentives.
– Providing standard, recycling and biodegradable bin bags for traders.
– Create sculptures using waste generated on site (e.g. plastic bottles)
We are delighted to be collaborating on this project with three key organisations in our community.
GREENER THAN GREEN PROJECT
Led by Reiki Magician, festival volunteer and site manager, Mason Lewis-Smith
Greener Than Green Project will be volunteering their time to take care of all our refuse and recycling needs on the day, site management and recycling workshops for the children.
STUDENTS FROM THE DESIGN TEAM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF BRIGHTON
Led by Eco Kids Projects Champion, festival volunteer and Senior University Lecturer, Cate Grundy
Cate will be working closely with her student design team, to provide unique branding for our event, and a live installation project that will work around a theme of plastic waste in our oceans.
BRIGHTON PEACE AND ENVIRONMENT CENTRE (BPEC)
Led by Eco Campaigns Superwomen, festival volunteer and Charity Communications Manager, Alice Doyle
Alice will be working with community organisations across Brighton to co-ordinate their involvement with the festival.

THE LARGEST SWISHING TENT BRIGHTON HAS SEEN – IN FACT WE HOPE TO SET A RECORD!!!
Look out for our big clothes swapping tent! We will be aiming to set a record for the largest clothes swapping tent in Brighton, followed by a fashion show. A small donation will be required to enter and up to ten items of good quality clothing and/or shoes can be swapped on the day.
