Welcome back to our ever-growing feature Mums in Business. We love all the mums we are getting to know, sneaking a peek into the lives of mums running local businesses. It’s a huge pleasure to be able to support them in this way. We have a few new questions, so don’t miss reading the interviews!
This week we meet Paloma who runs Photography by Paloma in Worthing.
Tell us about you and your family
I am a mum to 2 gorgeous little dragons, Amaia (4) and Ezra (1), wife to 1 wonderful husband (Rob) and have 2 lovely cats (Gaspar and Hugo).
Are you originally from Worthing?
Originally from Madrid in sunny Spain, and have now lived in Sunny Sussex for over 10 years. Currently, I live in Worthing but used to live in Brighton before we moved here.
Beach or South Downs?
Both!! I love the beach but equally, love the woods. I really enjoy taking my customers for their sessions to both locations! If I could only have one it would probably be the beach (you can’t beat the peace the waves bring!)
Tell us an unusual fact about yourself.
I used to be a holiday REP in Spain and have lived in 4 different countries
If you could spend the day with any celebrity or historical figure, who would it be?
Coco Chanel! I’d love to spend the day with her. I am always fascinated by women who had the strength and determination to do their own thing without being scared of what people thought. I feel inspired by the strong women in history who fought for equal rights and gave us the power to believe we could be whatever we wanted to be!
Finally, tell us about your business, why you started and what drives you on?
I have always loved photography. I got given my first camera as a gift when I was 7 or 8 and never looked back. I used to spend all of my pocket money taking films to be developed and remember it being the most exciting thing ever! I first started it as a business whilst on maternity leave with my eldest in 2014 and the rest is history as they say.
What drives me on is knowing that one day, all my children will have of me, aside from some (hopefully) lovely memories, are photographs. I remember sitting at my grandmother’s house for hours going through albums and boxes of old photographs and have many fond memories of her telling me the stories behind each photograph. I want my children to be able to do this too! Life is so busy and children grow so very quickly!!
As a mum with a camera I am very rarely in the photos so have to make a conscious effort to do so; my advice for all mums is: go out there, have your photos taken and print them, frame them, or put them in an actual album!
Paloma is Mum, wife, photographer and wanderer.
