The Red Box Project Worthing

You may have already heard about it, we are super excited to launch The Red Box Project in Worthing.

What is The Red Box Project?

The Red Box Project was originally launched by a small group of women in Portsmouth. It is a very simple scheme that provides free sanitary products to girls in schools who can’t afford, or are too embarrassed, to buy their own.

It’s a worrying fact that girls in the UK are missing school because they are unable to afford sanitary products, with some being absent for a week every month.

“It’s happening in other schools. Teachers have told me they are buying towels to have just in case.

“If you’ve got no food, you’ve got no money for sanitary protection. If you have a mum with two teenage girls, that’s a lot of money each month when you’re on zero-hours contracts, benefits or low income.

“It’s the working poor that we are looking at.” [Source]

“I didn’t get any money because my mum was a single parent and she had five mouths to feed, so there wasn’t much leftover money in the pot to be giving to us.” [Source]

We want to change this, one school at a time

The Red Box Project will provide a red box filled with sanitary products to any school that signs up to this free scheme. The box will be looked after by the school nurse or another appropriate staff member. A small paper bag ensures that supplies can be taken from the box discreetly. There will be a line inside the box with our contact details. When the level of products reaches that line, the school will simply contact us and we will refill the box within 48 hours.

This is where we need you!

We will have donation boxes set up across town where we will be collecting:

  • Sanitary Towels (with wings please)
  • Towels
  • Unused knickers in various sizes

Pick up an extra pack with your grocery shop or when you’re getting your own in town.

We have also set up a GoFundMe page to help us with the costs of setting up and running the project, sourcing the boxes, printing posters etc.

Another really simple way to get your donations to us is to order them from our Amazon Wishlist. There is a good selection of various products on this list that you can simply add to your order to be delivered straight to us, here’s the link:

With your help, we can give girls what they deserve. Nobody should suffer period poverty. Thank you so much!
